Why buy an electric vehicle rather than a petrol or diesel vehicle?

In addition to the not insignificant impact on the environment thanks to the reduction in CO2 emissions, a PEUGEOT electric vehicle offers many advantages:

100% electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid, which to choose?

An electric vehicle does not use fuel because it is powered by electric batteries. It is a totally non-polluting zero emission vehicle (ZEV). If you cover less than 50 km per day, its range (up to 362 km) will allow you to use it with peace of mind on only one full charge per week.

 

A hybrid vehicle gets some of its power from a petrol engine. A fully hybrid vehicle charges its batteries via the petrol engine when driving. A plug-in hybrid vehicle has to be plugged in to charge the battery and has a real electric range. A plug-in hybrid vehicle can travel further in electric mode than a full hybrid vehicle and this 100% electric mode can be easily activated by the driver. The electric mode also allows you to adapt your driving style to the type of road you are driving on.


How much does it cost to charge an electric vehicle at home?

The price of charging an electric vehicle is calculated on the basis of the price per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity. The consumption of an electric vehicle varies according to the model (on average 15 kWh/100 km) and may fluctuate according to the type of journey made and the weather conditions encountered. The price per kilometre of an electric car charged at home is about 4 times lower than that of a petrol or diesel vehicle. For example, the cost of charging an electric vehicle with a 50 kWh battery is between 8 and 11€.

 
 
BATTERIES


What is the warranty for the battery of a PEUGEOT electric vehicle?

Your PEUGEOT electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle benefits from an extended warranty on its traction battery: 8 years or 160,000 km, with a minimum capacity of 70%. All work within the scope carried out during this period is covered by PEUGEOT.

Can the battery of my electric vehicle be replaced?

When purchasing an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, we advise you to subscribe to a Service Plan: everything is included to guarantee you peace of mind in use and resale at the best price:

 

  • Traction battery capacity certificate;
  • Replacement or repair of defective parts (e.g. battery);
  • Replacement of wear-parts (e.g. brake pads, wiper blades, etc. );
  • Periodic servicing;
  • Roadside assistance (including running out of power).

 

Note: our traction batteries are guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km.


How are the batteries of PEUGEOT electric vehicles recycled?
The collection and recycling of batteries has been carried out since 2015 by SNAM. Currently, the recycling rate for batteries exceeds the regulatory requirement of 50% with a rate of 70%. Our end-of-life batteries are also reused in energy storage systems for private houses and apartment buildings.

What is the range of my electric vehicle?

Equipped with a 50 kWh battery (a 75 kWh battery is also available on the PEUGEOT e-Traveller depending on the version), the PEUGEOT electric range offers a maximum power of 100 kW and allows you to travel up to 362 km WLTP(i)  The driving range and electrical consumption values specified comply with the WLTP test procedure based on which new vehicles have been accepted since 1 September 2018. They may vary according to the actual conditions of use and various factors such as: speed, thermal comfort in the vehicle, driving style and outside temperature.   on a full charge.

How can I optimise the operating range of my vehicle?

The range of your electric vehicle depends primarily on the state of charge of your battery, but it can also be affected by driving too fast, frequent acceleration, the load carried and the road configuration. We recommend that you adopt a smooth or eco-driving style to preserve the maximum range of your electric car.

Why is the range of an electric car less when it is cold?

PEUGEOT electric and hybrid vehicles are equipped with lithium-ion batteries that must be kept at a positive temperature to maintain their efficiency. The power required to heat the batteries comes from the motor, which has an impact on the vehicle's range.

Who certifies the range of an electric car?

WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) is the vehicle certification protocol used in the European Union to measure fuel consumption, pollutant emissions and range of electric vehicles.

How do I charge my electric vehicle?

Several charging solutions are available to facilitate your daily life in your electric vehicle:

 

  • Home or private charging: you can charge your vehicle directly from home by choosing a domestic socket, a high-power socket or a Wall Box;
  • Public charging: you can charge your vehicle at more than 47,000 charging points in France and nearly 250,000 charging points in Europe that are compatible with PEUGEOT electric cars.

How long will it take to charge my electric car?

Charging time cannot be stated exactly as it depends on several parameters:

 

  • The power of the charging station and the charging cable used;
  • The weather conditions;
  • The charge level of your battery. The lower your battery level, the longer it takes to charge.

 

To optimise this time, the installation of a Wall Box at your home offers significant time savings.

On the road, use rapid charging stations wherever possible and retrieve 80% of your range in 30 minutes. The MyPeugeot application helps you to locate them in an instant.


How can I monitor the charging of my electric vehicle remotely?

What are the recommendations for charging my electric car?

If you are charging your vehicle at home, we advise you to charge it during off-peak hours (between 9.30 pm and 7.30 am and 12 noon and 4 pm) in order to optimise the cost of charging. For more details, you can consult the official Enedis website: https://www.enedis.fr/heures-creuses

 

To optimise your charging time, the installation and use of a Wall Box at home offers you a significant time saving (4h to reach 80% range vs 25h on a standard domestic plug). On the road, use fast charging stations and retrieve 80% of your range in 30 minutes.

What maintenance is required for an electric vehicle?

It requires less maintenance than a combustion-engine vehicle: no more oil changes, oil filter or clutch replacement or emissions check. Your visits to the workshop are therefore less frequent.

 

To manage your maintenance as you wish, the MyPeugeot application offers a virtual service booklet that helps you follow the recommended servicing schedule for your vehicle according to the information entered:

 

  • Current kilometrage;
  • Average annual kilometrage and information on your use (personal or business).

 

For ideal operation, you are asked to update this information manually and regularly (unless your vehicle is connected via Bluetooth or with a ConnectPacks contract, in which case the kilometrage update is automatic) and to note any maintenance carried out so that the service book is up to date.

Can I make long journeys with an electric car?

The entire PEUGEOT electric range allows you to benefit from rapid charging on the road or on the motorway.

In just 30 minutes, you can retrieve up to 300 km of WLTP range. To optimise charging, the Free2move application suggests an optimised route according to your battery capacity, remaining range, road topography and the charging stations available on your route.


How can I be sure to have enough battery power for long journeys?

Also, Free2Move's "route planning" function allows you to adjust and calculate your route according to your consumption, your remaining range and the charging stations available on your route.

 

Adopting a smooth driving style and activating the Eco mode on long journeys will avoid excessive energy consumption. Smooth acceleration and the use of regenerative braking can save up to 15% of your vehicle's range. Finally, remember to keep to the speed limit, as driving at high speeds will reduce the range of your vehicle.


Can I drive in the rain or snow with an electric car?

The vehicle's bonnet and charging-port flap ensure that the electrical components are watertight, so you can enjoy the unique sensation of electric driving in the rain or snow. View our advice for worry-free use of your electric vehicle in everyday life:

 

  • Before washing your vehicle, the charging-port flap must be properly closed;
  • Do not wash your vehicle while charging or high-pressure wash the engine compartment or under the chassis;
  • Do not allow water or dust to enter the connector or charging plug (risk of electric shock or fire);
  • Finally, do not connect or disconnect the charging plug with wet hands (risk of electrocution).

What is an electric car?

An electric car is a vehicle whose motor is powered by electricity from lithium-ion batteries. The batteries in PEUGEOT 100% electric vehicles are located under the floor, so that they do not impact on the space on board or the boot volume.

How does the motor of a 100% electric car work?

An electric vehicle does not have a petrol or diesel engine but a motor that uses electricity as energy. The motor converts this energy stored in the battery into mechanical energy to enable the vehicle to move when you press the accelerator pedal.

What is a plug-in hybrid vehicle?

A Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is a car with two power sources: a petrol or diesel engine and an electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery. The term 'hybrid' refers to the combination of two power sources and 'plug-in' indicates the possibility of charging the battery from a domestic socket or public charging point.

What is the difference between an electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid?

An electric car, also known as an electric vehicle (EV), is a vehicle with a single motor powered by electricity, unlike the plug-in hybrid vehicle or PHEV, which has an electric motor and a combustion engine.

How does a plug-in hybrid vehicle work?

The plug-in hybrid car works with the electric motor, the internal combustion engine or a combination of the two power sources. The vehicle will be powered by the electric motor for starting and low speeds and then by a combination of the two power sources during acceleration for optimum performance. If the vehicle's battery is not sufficiently charged, the combustion engine will be used to move the car.

What is the difference between a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid vehicle?

A hybrid car recovers energy only during regenerative braking to charge the battery with electricity, whereas a plug-in hybrid car can both be plugged into a household socket or public charging point and use regenerative braking to charge its battery.

What is an EV, BEV, HEV, PHEV or FCEV car?

There are several abbreviations for the different types of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles:

 

  • EV or "Electric Vehicle" and BEV for "Battery Electric Vehicle" for 100% electric vehicles;
  • HEV or "Hybrid Electric Vehicle" for hybrid electric vehicles that are equipped with an electric motor and a combustion engine;
  • PHEV or "Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle" for cars equipped with a combustion engine and a rechargeable battery electric motor;
